Modern cars have numerous electrical systems, each of which contributes to your driving experience. Unfortunately, electrical systems can develop problems over time. Electrical problems can appear even in a Porsche. As your Porsche dealer in Chantilly, VA, we can fix any possible problem for you. These are some of the problems caused by electrical issues.

Is Your Porsche Having Electrical Problems

Dead Battery

One of the first electrical issues anyone associates with a car is a dead battery. Your battery stores electricity and uses this power to start your car and maintain the electrical systems when the engine is off. A battery has a limited life of approximately three to five years and then needs replacement. As a battery gets older, it will also become weaker.

As time passes, your battery charging level gradually reduces. It also becomes more difficult to recharge your battery. These problems are caused by a breakdown of chemicals in the battery. Eventually, the chemical breakdown will cause the battery to fail. We can test your battery with our battery tester. If it fails the series of tests, we can replace it with a new one.

Damaged Sensors

Your Porsche computer is connected to numerous sensors attached throughout your car. Each of these sensors is connected to an important component, and their job is to monitor that component. The sensors continually feedback information to your computer, which includes problems they’ve detected. The sensors themselves can suffer damage, especially if installed in hot, wet, or dirty sections of the engine.

A damaged sensor may provide wrong information. Your computer will use this information in its decisions, and this can lead to further problems. A damaged oxygen sensor in the converter, for example, could wrongly report the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases. When your computer uses this information, you could experience misfiring, stalling, or possible engine damage.

Worn Spark Plugs

The spark plug’s purpose is to ignite the fuel-air mix in the cylinders. Once fuel and air have mixed in the intake manifold, they’re injected into the cylinders. The fuel-air mix is highly compressed in the cylinders and ignited by the plugs. This combustion process enables your car to move. The plugs can wear out through age or metal fatigue, and they can also be damaged by other engine issues.

Damaged spark plugs will either misfire or fail. Continual misfiring from a damaged plug can lead to damage to the affected cylinder and piston. We can easily test your plugs and replace any failed ones.
